“What does the gay porn industry mean to me? Well, you just asked a mouthful there!
Speaking as a European performer, it’s not all sunshine and roses. It’s a tough business, wracked with competition and uncertainty. There is always someone buffer, hotter, more hung and more in demand than you, though I guess that isn’t strictly a Euro performer’s problem.
It’s always going to be competitive. Why do you think we spend all our time in the gym, take hundreds of self-shots and drown ourselves in protein shakes?
All that said, it’s an industry I love. I’ve been making porn for 3.5 years now. I’ve met some wonderful people and had the best time possible whilst at work.
With the invention of social media it has brought a lot of the performers, studios, directors and producers from all over the world together. It really does feel like a family at times. There are the loving mothers, the daddies (*happy sigh* oh yes 🙂 and all the cheeky brothers.
With their flaws and all, I couldn’t wish for a better group of co-workers.
Doing something as intimate as having sex with someone as soon as you meet them isn’t for everyone. It takes a certain type of guy to choose to do this for a living and an even rarer breed whom can make longevity and success from it!
It really does mean everything to me. I can’t imagine doing anything else and enjoying it as much as I do this.
As a drag queen friend of mine says: ‘It’s like having all the fame and not a pot to piss in!’ Loosely translated, meaning everyone knows who we are but we don’t make a lot of money.
Contrary to popular belief, porn actors aren’t millionaires! Those who do it, do it for the love of men, sex, performance, infamy and the lifestyle. It’s much like being an artist in that sometimes, for some of the guys, there isn’t much work and you get by, while other times things are bountiful and abundant. Overall, it’s a very happy existence.
